Police are being cautious of a former Charlottesville and Greene County Deputy Sheriff, who was charged with impersonating a police office.
Fifty-one-year-old Steven Wayne Shifflett who lives on pear tree lane in Charlottesville was arrested for allegedly making a traffic stop in Alexandria.
Police say he pulled over a retired police officer for speeding, displayed a badge and forced the 61-year-old from his car for further questioning but then let him go.
Charlottesville police served Shifflett the warrant at his home. Since then, he has been released on bail.
"This individual, I understand, changes his appearance," said Capt. John Crawford of the Alexandria Police Department. "Sometimes he may be wearing glasses, he does his hair, sometimes he shaves his mustache."
Alexandria police are still investigating whether Shifflett may have stopped other motorists in the area.
CBS19 and ABC16 spoke with Shifflett and he said he could not make any comment pending his trial on April 6th in Alexandria.
