Virginia Department Of Transportation Prepares For Snow

February 25, 2005

VDOT snow plows were out in full force on Thursday, February 24th, and now crews are preparing for the next snow storm, which might come as soon as Monday the 28th.

Today crews are gearing up and conducting test runs to ensure all of the equipment is working and readily available. Officials say all of the preliminaries for Monday are on schedule and their budget is in tact.

“We're actually allocated approximately 1.4 million dollars, and prior to this last event we've spent approximately 475-thousand dollars of that allocation," says Teresa Butler, a VDOT Resident Engineer. "Given it's almost March 1st, hopefully we won't exceed that allocation, but we will be mission ready regardless.”

In the event of heavy snowfall, VDOT asks residents of subdivisions to avoid parking on the street so their snow plow trucks can get through.
