It may have been a snow day for county and city schools, but not for the university.

UVA students trudged through the snow to get to class on Monday, February 28. Unlike almost everything else in the city and county, the university kept its doors open.

Although some students would have liked the day off, not going to class seemed pretty unlikely considering the university hasn't closed due to snow in at least five years.

"The university's basic policy is always to stay open if at all possible so that students can go to class and so that patients can come to the hospital for inpatient and outpatient care," said UVA Spokesperson Carol Wood.

Wood says some exceptions were made for students and staff who were unable to attend class because of the snow.
