Charlottesville has it all, right?

We have the top ranking of cities to live in the United States, we have a a brand new airlines-- Northwest Airlines --coming to the Charlottesville-Albemarle Aiport on Tuesday Jan. 4th, and one of the best universities in the country, but do we have a problem with suburban sprawl?

Jim Duncan with Centruy 21's Manley Associate's office says, "more and more people are working in the heart of Charlottesville. More and more are working at the University, and some of the larger companies like State Farm Insurance and various government contractors. They are finding that the prices in Charlottesville are prohibitive."

While some are working in the heart of Charlottesville, others a pumping through the veins into Fluvanna County.

Alex Teodosio, a business administrator with the University of Virginia's Benefits Office, drives 25 miles to and from work each day.

"Driving 25 miles should take me 25-30 minutes", Teodosio said.

Teodosio says he drives the extended commute because the homes in Fluvanna County are much more affordable than in Charlottesville. Real estate agents in our area agree.

"We would love to live in Charlottesville or Albemarle County, but the homes are much higher, so the cost of living is much higher as well", Teodosio said.

If you think it only affects the family man...think again. It could affect the business corporations who may be considering a move to our area for their company.

Jim Duncan says, "it depends on the payscale of the company. I think you see a lot of corporations coming to Charlottesville have a higher payscale, and are able to pay for the new developments for their employees."

Teodosio actually made it home in 35 minutes and could have made it on time, but experienced a couple problems getting through the gate at his living community.
