On the first Saturday of every month, you can get your blood pressure checked for free at Martha Jefferson Hospital.
Staff say it's a painless process that only takes a few minutes.
Volunteers say high blood pressure can be linked to stroke and cardiovascular disease. It can not be cured, but it can be controlled.
"Unfortunately blood pressure is one of those things you don't get a symptom when it goes up, so it should be checked on a regular basis especially if you have a family history," says Matalie Deane, a respiratory therapist with the hospital.
The free checks are offered from 10 until noon on the first Saturday of the month at the main lobby at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Free parking is provided.
