Sexual threats to children online are very common, and area police are doing something to make sure it is not a problem here. Child sexual exploitation occurs in every group; whether it be economic, social, ethnic, or religious. Due to the explosion of the Internet, it's on the rise.
The main attraction to the internet is its anonymity which makes it so dangerous. A child doesn't always know who their talking to.
A spokesperson with the Internet Crimes Against Children Department of Albemarle County Police says "children may think they know, but unless it's a friend or a relative, they can't be sure."
Two days ago, that same department known as ICAC arrested a 29-year-old Fluvanna County man at his home, and charged him with two counts of soliciting a minor.
ICAC's spokesperson says the number of area predators is on the rise, and his division has people trained to weed them out.
The officers are specially trained, but are not there to entrap anyone. The officers only react when a sexual suggestion is made to a minor, and tries to meet with the minor who is actually an officer.
The ICAC department works hours just as any job" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://search.targetwords.com/u.search?x=5977|1||||job|AA1VDw">job, but a “catch” isn't made every day. Sometimes it takes days, weeks, or even months, but so far this year; the department is working on two cases.
