FBI Leads Investigation Of Lasers Beaming Into Cockpits

An investigation is underway into the recent rash of 'lasers' being beamed into aircraft cockpits. The Federal Bureau of Investigation says 31 incidents have been reported since December 31st; four in the past week.

Two occurred at Dulles International Airport-- one beam shining into a Fairfax County police helicopter and one into a US Airways Express airplane.

There have been no arrests, and they continue to rule out terrorism. In fact, some officials are blaming copycats who may have heard, or read news reports.

There are lasers on the market that beam up to 25,000 feet into the sky and sell for about $119.

Transportation officials are working on modifications to aircraft windshields to better protect the pilots, but specifics are not yet available.
