What do you want to be when you grow up?

Thanks to a career fair, some local high school students may be able to better answer that question.

Shaina Allen, like a lot of other 10th graders, has an idea of what career she wants. "I definitely want to do broadcasting", she said.

The annual career fair, thrown by the Charlottesville Area School Business Alliance, is aimed at helping 10th graders like Shaina figure it all out.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for young people to look ahead", said Linda Seaman, the Executive Director of CASBA.

More than 2,000 kids from four counties and the city filed through the halls of Piedmont Virginia Community College for the fair on Friday the 11th.

The event featured 161 sessions led by presenters in many different professions.

"I'm going to be a K-12 teacher right now, so I'm going to go to that [presentation]. So, that should be interesting", said Ronald Laub, of Western Albemarle High School.

Some students even carried worksheets to help them out.

"It goes through and asks us questions about the beginning of the day, and then once we've gone through all the courses that we've gone through. It talks about what we got out of it", said Patrick Tatum, a local student.

For these local 10th graders, it's more than just meeting people that are in a specific career. It's also about developing skills that will help land them their first job.

"It's important that they have some of the basic foundation skills before they enter the workplace", said John Beta, with Martha Jefferson Hospital's Human Resources Department.

The career fair has been running now for about eight years. There is also one for 7th graders scheduled for the fall.
