New figures show overall, unemployment is up a bit in the commonwealth.

The rate in January rose to just over 3% in Virginia. In Albemarle County, the unemployment rate is just 1.3%.

Most of the rest of our area is below the state average as well.
Fluvanna County is at 1.8% and Greene County is 1.4%.
Madison County's unemployment rate is 3.4% and Orange County is 3%. Charlottesville's unemployment rate is 3%.

The only county in our area over the state average was Louisa at 4%.

The rise in the state's unemployment rate is attributed to the drop off of workers from seasonal employment in December.
