Hundreds of students crowded in the basement hallway of Clark Elementary taking part in Tornado Preparedness Day.
Kids practiced ducking and covering into a safe position, just in case. Governor Mark Warner proclaimed Tuesday, March 15th as the first annual Tornado Preparedness Day. The annual statewide drill gives schools, businesses, and residents a chance to test their emergency plans.
"So children and staff are aware of what do we do in the case of, a fire, severe weather. So that's why we do this--so children, students are prepared," said Principal of Clark Elementary, Art Stow
All of Virginia's public schools are required to participate in at least one tornado drill per year.
