Cardinal Says Avoid "The Da Vinci Code"

March 16, 2005

The book by Dan Brown has topped the best seller list since it was first published two years ago. Despite it's popularity, a Cardinal with the Vatican denounced the "The Da Vinci Code" on Tuesday, March 15th and asked Christian followers not to read it.

One reason "The Da Vinci Code" has captivated readers is because it alleges that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had children. It's classified as a fictitious thriller, but its allegations have outraged Christians who view it as anti-Catholic and misleading.

Still, fans of the book say they are not surprised by the cardinals stance against it. The controversy over the book is part of what has made it so popular. It is now available in 44 languages and booksellers expect it to remain a best seller well into the year.
