It's a problem that is not likely to go away: Athletes using steroids to bulk up quickly.
Joe Gieck, a University of Virginia sports medicine professor said that steroids do not seem to be a big problem in Charlottesville. "At the University of Virginia, educational programs are in place for athletes along with drug testing," he said. The University has only had one positive result since 1984.
The athletic director for Charlottesville High School, Carroll Bickers, says he hasn't seen a case involving high school athletes and steroid abuse in years. He attributes this to education. He also said that, "steroid abuse is not limited to just athletes. Others use the drugs to get the look they want." Some students want a bigger and better image.
While steroids will make you bulk up within a short amount of time, some say you can get the same results for you body without them, it just takes a little more time and dedication.
