Ellen Whitener, Senior Associate Dean and Professor from the McIntire School of Commerce, died Tuesday, March 22nd from pneumococcal meningitis.
Doctors say the condition probably resulted from an infection that spread from her ear or lung into to her bloodstream and then her brain.
Whitener had been with UVA since 1988. Those with the university say she was an outstanding scholar and academic leader.
A memorial service for Whitener will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 24th at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
