Authorities say the shooting at a Wal-Mart Stores Inc. distribution center in Virginia remains under investigation and a motive is still unclear.
The Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office says an employee at the center shot and wounded his manager Wednesday, then killed himself.
Major William Knott identified the man on Thursday as 33-year-old Melvin D. Taylor Jr. of Petersburg, who had worked at the center for nine years.
Deputies encountered Taylor standing outside the entrance Wednesday afternoon. When deputies approached, he shot at them with a handgun, then fatally shot himself in the chest.
Officials say Taylor shot his 40-year-old manager in the shipping department in the leg. The 18-year veteran of the distribution center suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. Her name has not been released.
