Outside Agencies Hope For City Money

March, 24, 2005

Outside agencies were hoping to inch away more money from the Charlottesville City Budget Thursday night, March 24.

At a special session for budget review, the issue was how much money to give outside agencies.

On average, groups asked for three percent more than they received last year. More funding for the music resource center was one of the many in question.

"I'm just not sure why we're in such a tight budget year when people are looking for money, why we're putting $44,000 into an agency that's showing a $250,000 surplus," said Charlottesville City Council Member Rob Schilling.

Councilors say 13 agencies will be discussed further including the Municipal Band and the Virginia Festival of the Book.
