UVa students took their late night safety concerns to the University Transit Service. In response, UTS will begin offering extended late-night bus service for a four-weekend trial period beginning April 7.
Regular UTS service usually ends at 12:15 a.m. The new extended hours will end at 3 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
"We're hoping that there is enough passenger demand that people actually ride the bus at that hour to justify a mass transit response to a transportation need at that hour of the day," said Rebecca White, the Director of the University Transit Service.
Officials said if they do reach an acceptable number of passengers, the extended hours will continue in the fall.
