Governor Mark Warner vetoed legislation on Tuesday, March 29th that was easily passed by the General Assembly. The legislation sought to end a 24-year federal ban on offshore drilling for natural gas.

Warner says the issue needs more study. Environmental groups had pressed Warner to veto the bill.

Republican State Senator Frank Wagner says he will introduce the bill again next year.
