Jerry Milbank joined the Boys and Girls Club of America back in 1952, when that current President Herbert Hoover asked him to help change people's lives.
"He said, Jerry, he said, your father and I think you want to be on the board of this organization and he said we're going to do a lot of good work and he said how about it? And I said yes, sir. I didn't say anything else, just yes sir," said Jerry Milbank.
Milbank served as President and Chairman of the board for 11 years. During his tenure, Milbank pushed for the name change from "Boys Club of America" to "Boys and Girls Club of America."
"It had been apparently evident to us as we went touring around these cities that we had a lot of girls that needed the same kind of help," said Milbank.
He has helped expand the Club's original 25 housing facilities to now, 450. On Wednesday, April 6, Milbank was finally recognized for his efforts. The Club gave him the "Lifetime Member Award."
"You do the best you can you know and you don't even know what's producing results until time goes by and you have a chance to meet families and see that kids," said Milbank.
