Our soon to be French sister city, Besancon, has donated 62 drawings for Charlottesville residents to view. This comes as another move to draw the two cities together as become closer to sisterhood status.

Officials say both Charlottesville and Besancon, which is located in Eastern France, are similar in many ways. The similarities range from culture to history. They believe that the relationship is a good thing for both.

"What city sisterships are about is the future. It's built around economics, improving both of our lifestyles and our economic exchanges, education, so it's built around children, and its built around a better cultural understanding," said Blake Caravati, City Councilman.

"I'm very happy with the sister city we can give a gift to Charlottesville. It's a friendship gift," said Jean-Louis Fousseret, Mayor of Besancon.

Besancon owns the works of art. They will be on display at the University museum for two months starting this Saturday. The two cities have already signed an official friendship agreement. The sister city relationship should be finalized sometime next year.
