For those who are done filing their federal taxes, it's somewhat time to celebrate. It's considered to be a dreaded day, whether you owe Uncle Sam or not.
Many played the waiting game at the main post office along Seminole Trail. "Everybody is sending out their taxes. Some people are not that happy about it 'cause they have to pay," said Roy Holland, Customer Service Supervisor. People filed in with envelopes in hand, ready to slap on a stamp and drop it in the mailbox.
Outside the post office a local radio station pumped out music and handed out pizza. This was a small comfort to some who had to dish out a lot more to the government.
It's not shocking that so many wait until the last minute to file their taxes. According to the IRS, about 1/3 of all taxes are filed within the last two weeks.
Charlottesville residents explained why they waited so long to file. "I usually have to pay them something, so if I have to pay, they may as well wait until I have to, said Martin Boone.
"I'm a procrastinator and I hate doing it," added Megan Griffin.
Still, others try to look at April 15th in a different light although it may be hard to do. "Just another day I guess, except for writing that check out," said Monte Crosier.
