The 35th annual March of Dimes for pre-mature babies stepped around town on Sunday, April 17 in Charlottesville. Over 450 walkers strolled five and a half miles around the city, raising about $50,000. The theme of the event was "Save Babies Lives."
"Healthy women can do everything right and still have a premature baby. One in 8 babies is actually born pre-mature in America and that puts a huge strain on your family both emotionally and financially, We're trying to help these babies have the best chance of survival," said Jessica Beck, a March of Dimes coordinator.
The majority of the money raised goes directly to research at UVA.
