Students, teachers and members of the community got together Sunday afternoon at Charlottesville High School for the 19th National African-American Read-In Chain.
It's a nationwide event that takes place each year on the first Sunday of Black History month. At Sunday's ceremony the crowd prayed, sang and read; all in the name of literacy.
"Reading...you can go anywhere, you can do anything, you can see much that you wouldn't be able to see personally. It is not only educational, it is liberating," explained Mildred Robinson, President of the Charlottesville chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
Delta Sigma Theta sponsored Sunday's event with help from Charlottesville High's varsity and JV cheerleaders.
