According to research by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 14 percent of people in the state are uninsured. Of those, over 11 percent do have jobs.
Experts say it's a popular misperception that people without health insurance are not working.
"They may just be working part time or their employer is no longer offering health insurance because the premiums are so high," said Executive Director of the Charlottesville Free Clinic, Erika Viccellio.
The study placed Texas in the top spot for the largest number of uninsured people, with over 30 percent. Minnesota came in last.
