The Piedmont Group of the Sierra Club hosted a discussion about future water supplies and the results show that we have enough water, but just nowhere to put it.

"Now we are using about three percent of the water that goes over the South Fork Rivanna Damn. That is a county figure. So what we don't have is enough storage space to take our community through a drought," said Liz Palmer of the League of Women Voters Natural Resources Committee.

2002 was the latest drought that lasted several years, depleting the groundwater. Local terrain makes it difficult to drill wells, so the problem remains: How to store water in case of a drought.
