Golf Tournament Benefits Alzheimer's Association

Video will be available shortly.

May 5, 2005

About 172 people, including some of the Newsplex staff, played in the Bill Howard Golf Tournament at Birdwood Thursday afternoon. The tourney benefited the local Alzheimer's Association chapter.

Bill Howard, the organizer of the event, said started it seven years ago in memory of his father who died of the disease.

"When my father passed away, he had Alzheimer's, and I just wanted to do something for the local Alzheimer's Association because they helped me get through my father having Alzheimer's," he said. "So we started this tournament in his honor, in his memory."

The tournament is expected to gross $8,000 this year. It is the most successful one in Virginia that benefits the Alzheimer's Association. All the money stays in the local chapter.
