More than 200 people turned out today to honor Charlottesville's Small Business Person of the Year.
This year's recipient came as a surprise to just about everyone, but no more so than to the recipient himself. Jim Carpenter spent twenty years as a photographer for The Daily Progress before purchasing Gitchell's Studio back in 1988.
Mr. Carpenter has won a slew of awards throughout the years. He is also an extremely active member of the community.
"I've won a lot of awards in my life, but this one was more personal. Photography was one thing, but [one that honors] my civic duties is [even more special]," said Mr. Carpenter
