New Potential Earthquake Damage at Albemarle County Office Building

May 30, 2012

A repair project at the Albemarle County Office Building on McIntire Road has led to a bigger discovery. There's a one inch bow in the exterior wall and earthquake damage could be to blame.

Crews were already working on a brick replacement project when the discovery was made. While they're taking steps to repair the damage, the project manager says there's no immediate danger.

"Additional investigation told us that actually a bow in the wall had caused it.The windows had stayed where they were supposed to, but the wall is actually bowing out. Although this is not an imminent threat, we did have some concerns and know that regardless of the other project we're doing related to maintenance, we had to do this project as well," said Neale Craft, Project Manager.

Workers have filed an insurance claim to see if any of the repair costs can be recovered. Another small bow was found on a different wall, but it's not as significant.
