Students Rewarded After Exams

Students may have a little extra cash in their wallet after exams--and we're not talking about money for grades. It's time to sell back those text books. But it's not as easy as that.

"I haven't had too much luck, I only got one out of three books back for money back," said Jessica Hang, 5th year UVa student.

Buy-backs depend on the next year's classes, but sometimes it doesn't have anything to do with the school at all.

"The publishers go through editions, especially with older text books, older editions aren't worth anything," said Vince Adamson, manager of the University Bookstore.

The good news is the University Bookstore buys them year round, but it pays to come early.

"We'll have a limit, where we're gonna buy 'x' number that we think we can turn around and sell. Once we hit a certain limit we'll pay less for the book," said Adamson.

Once the University bookstore has reached its limit you can look for alternative ways to sell books. One alternatives is sitting at the corner of Emmett and University. Resource Books offers less wait time and no buy back limit, meaning consistent prices.

"[They'll go for] anywhere from a dollar for a book, up to a hundred dollars, depending on a textbook," said Dennis Poletti of Resource Books.

Other alternatives include websites like eBay. But some students prefer the convenience of the University bookstore.

"It's such a pain in the neck to find the thing, etc. So I would rather just give the books and get my 20 bucks and be happy," said 4th year student Chuck Garbaccio.

No matter if read every page, or only the night before the exam, most buyers will take all books as long as they aren't missing pages.
