Albemarle County police are investigating a case of attempted murder. The case comes two months after it allegedly took place. Police say in March 2005, officials at the University of Virginia Medical Center notified their department and the Department of Social Services that an 11- month-old child was admitted for water intoxication.
For adults, nothing seems to quench a thirst better than water, but for children under one year of age, water can be deadly. Studies show that too much water dilutes a baby's normal sodium level, which can cause seizures and other medical problems.
On May 19th, police went to the 1200 block of Fox Crest Way in Albemarle County to arrest and charge 38-year old Iian Gainov with attempted murder of his 11-month-old child. Their investigation also revealed other possible signs of child abuse.
While Gainov sits in jail without bond, neighbors in the Foxcroft subdivision say their community is safe. In fact, several of them who asked not to be shown on camera, say they believe Gainov didn't do anything wrong.
We knocked on the door of Gainov's home where someone gave me a card to his lawyer. At this time, we have been unable to reach Gainov's attorney. Meanwhile, Albemarle County police continue their investigation.
