Delegate Rob Bell presented the 2005 Citizen Lawmaker Awards to local constituents whose ideas were turned into bills. Some included a panhandling bill, a drug store signage bill in Scottsville, and a bullying bill.
Bell said this year was possibly the best for resident participation and stressed the importance of getting involved.
"I think it helps show everyday people that if you have an idea and it's a good idea and you work through the process you can get the laws changed," said Delegate Bell.
"We're elated that this bill has finally passed and we're honored that we've gotten this award, cause it means a lot to our family," said Kim Brancato, who helped propose the idea that lead to the bullying bill.
All the bills are set to become law July 1.
