George Fitch, Warrenton mayor and lesser known Republican candidate for governor, vows as governor, to conserve land by managing growth.
He also vows to cut government spending and cut taxes, which is something he accomplished as mayor of Warrenton.
He credits his experience as a business man to this success.
"You run a government as a business," said Fitch. "If you find apartments that duplicate each other, you merge them into one. If the private sector can do it cheaper, faster, better, you let them do it."
Fitch said his opponent former Attorney General Jerry Kilgore does not know how to do this, even though he promises to, because he has experience as a lawyer, not a businessman.
The primary is June 14.
