Charlottesville's city manager announced the appointment of Deputy Chief Charles Werner to the position of Interim Fire Chief. Werner has been with the city's fire department for 27 years. He replaces Julian Taliaferro, who is retiring this year. Werner is thrilled with the promotion.
"I'm very excited. Anybody who has a chance to follow in the lead of Julian Taliaferro, who is one of the best fire chief's in the country, you realize the opportunity. And then, just realizing the community we live in and the support we receive," said Werner.
Werner will officially start as fire chief July 1st.
