Monday's scene of police officers gathered outside a bank was the third in less than a week. The bomb threat was the second for the Wachovia on the Downtown Mall since last Friday. The first threat was mailed and today's threat came around 12 p.m. by phone.
"Representatives from the bank evacuated the building, we came down and the building was secured," said Sgt. Dave Jones of the Charlottesville Police Department.
Bomb-sniffing dogs were called in to help search the building, but the dogs found nothing. Wachovia, however, isn't the only bank being targeted.
Last Friday, the Bank of America on the corner near UVA also received a threat in the mail. The threat came within an hour of the Wachovia scare. Employees there were evacuated while police searched the building and again found nothing. Police are baffled as to why someone would pull such a scary prank.
"I have no idea what the motive of the individual is," said Sgt. Jones.
It's now up to the FBI to find out if the threats are linked and who could be behind them.
