It's called the American Dream, but buying a home in Albemarle County can be a bit expensive.

That's why Albemarle County is partnering with Piedmont Housing Alliance to assist low to medium income families in purchasing their first home.

"We are combining $250,000 of county money and $50,000 of federal home money to create this program," said Ronnie White, County Chief of Housing.

Charlottesville is considered one of the most desired city to live in America and with that desire, the prices of homes rise.

Real Estate broker Karen Kehoe says that the county market value of homes in Charlottesville is expensive, but owning a home came benefit many people.

"It's good for sellers, it’s good for buyers also, because once they've bought a house they've got a bit of a nest egg. [Their home] does increase in value," said Kehoe. "It's extremely rewarding to give someone their dream [of owning a home]."
