The Pentagon says a Marine from Virginia has been killed in combat in Iraq.

The Department of Defense announced that 24-year-old Lance Corporal Jourdan L. Grez, who lived in Harrisonburg, was one of four Marines killed last Wednesday while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Grez was killed when his amphibious assault vehicle struck an explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Karabilah, Iraq.

Grez was assigned to Marine Forces Reserves' 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division in Roanoke.

James Madison University officials say Grez attended the Harrisonburg college and was active in International Student Services.

For Operation Iraqi Freedom, these Marines' units were attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (forward) at Camp Lejeune.
