Muscular Dystrophy affects 1800 families in central Virginia.
Community members came out to raise money for the cause, filling Starhill Restaurant for a silent auction and live music. There are two clinics in Charlottesville that offer treatment.
"We also fund research because we are definitely close to finding the cure, but ultimately it's money that's going to help us to eradicate this disease," said Tajuana Eddleton of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Organizers say they successfully raised several thousand dollars.
