A shooting in Greene County on June 20 leaves one man in jail and another in serious condition. The domestic dispute started over property, and ended with one man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds, and another in jail.

"There was shooting from both guns like pow-pow," said John Shifflett, a witness.

That's how this witness describes the shoot-out between two family members over the ownership of a house. He said Edward "Oscar" Raines had been living there with his nephew Charles "Timmy" Keneson and his girlfriend.

Shifflett said after a night of heavy drinking and target practice, Timmy took out his shotgun and threatened Oscar. Timmy told him to get off the property.

"He told Oscar if you come up with a gun in your hand I'm going to kill you," said Shifflett.

Shifflett said fearing for his life, Oscar pulled out his own shotgun. Gunfire was exchanged and Timmy was the only one hit.

"He was shot in the face and the chest," said Shifflett. Shifflett's son ran and called 911. Greene County Sheriffs and rescue personnel came shortly after, arresting Oscar and taking Timmy to the hospital.

Timmy Raines is still in serious condition at UVA Medical Center. The witnesses say this family is no stranger to gunfire or confrontation. Oscar Raines is being charged with several felonies including malicious wounding. Police said charges are pending on the victim, as well.
