The Albemarle County redistricting committee passed a new plan that will force 40 percent less students to change schools.
Under the new plan, high schoolers whose families live in Stonehenge, Dunlora, or Pen Park areas would not get switched from Albemarle to Monticello next fall. It would also allow families in Farmington to stay with the Murray Elementary, Henley Middle School, and Western Albemarle High School feeder pattern. Some members of the committee feel this would make the majority of parents happy.
"We put children in schools that are closer to their homes so it will foster more parent involvement in the schools, less travel time for children going to schools, so that means less time on the school bus," said Donald Lyon.
The committee’s recommendation is now passed onto the Albemarle County School Board who has the final say.
