Dozens of people took time out from their busy schedules to honor several community 'Bridge Builders.' The annual ceremony is held to honor those credited with helping to bridge or reduce barriers between groups in the community.

Today's ceremony was hosted by Mayor David Brown at the First Baptist Church on West Main Street. The award is in honor of the late Drewary Brown who spent years trying to break through the city's racial barriers.

"We have not run out of the need for bridges or the need for demolition work, so we just have to keep on and keep moving," said Paul Gaston, a Bridge Builder honoree.

A plaque will be placed on the Drewary J. Brown Bridge on West Main Street to represent each of the six honorees.
