Madison Approves Budget

Video will be available shortly.

June 22, 2005

Sorting out your own expenses can be a bit time consuming--so imagine doing it for a whole county. In Madison, the Board of Supervisors reviewed the budget for a final time.

No more arguing over adding new positions or raising taxes, because the Board approved the budget earlier this evening.

The board voted unanimously over how to spend $29 million. It's the same budget that was proposed to the public two weeks ago.

In short--the county will be adding 3 new positions: an accounts-payable technician, a soil erosion specialist, and a 9-1-1 dispatcher. They will also be raising the real-estate tax by 3 cents. But County leaders stressed in their last meeting that their tax rates are the best of all central Virginia counties.

"It was a bear. When you are trying to knock $2 million off of a budget of only 29 million that's a pretty big chunk. So we did the best we could," said Chairman of the Madison Board of Supervisors David C. Jones.

The Board also adopted several plans include fees for picking up large amounts of trash that will go into affect mid-August.
