With the doubling of the elder population in the next 15 years, there is an increasing demand for long term health care services.
The Jefferson Board of aging held a conference dealing with issues such as what type of housing people will need as they age, and the community health care systems.
The board says people over the age of 60 will double in Charlottesville by the year 2020.
"We all will be touched by long term care somehow--either we'll need it, or a family member's going to need it or a neighbor's going to need it, said Gordon Walker, CEO of the Jefferson Board of Aging. "In some way we all have an invested interest in making certain we have a good health care system locally."
The information gathered from today's conference will be submitted to the White House Conference of Aging this December.
