The results are in for the primaries, but the conversation isn't about who won or lost. Where were the voters?
Yesterday Albemarle County turned out 15 percent of its voters. That was five percent more than the state percentile for surrounding counties. Political experts are saying that this low number in voter turnout for primaries is not unusual.
"You can't really look to history as a good guide for participation in primary elections, but it's generally much lower than general elections," really aren't engaged in terms of campaign politics as much as they are in November."
Smyth added that Albemarle County and Charlottesville were better off than other places, mostly because of the 57th house district race.
