Teacher Charged For Sexual Offenses With Student

A former music teacher in Augusta County is charged with sexually offending a minor over a two-year period.

The county's sheriff's office says an ongoing investigation revealed 49-year old Shelby Sue Shelton had an intense relationship with one of her students.

Police say the sexual offenses took place between 1996 and 1998 in several locations including Beverly Manor Middle school. The teacher of 19 years also worked at Buffalo Gap High School.

She had relations with female student until the student's freshman year of high school.

Shelton faces multiple charges including carnal knowledge of a female minor child. She is currently in police custody in California awaiting extradition. She was working as a teacher in San Jose.
