School is just around the corner, and one local school facility is still undergoing renovations. School opens in two weeks and construction crews at Charlottesville High School are racing against the clock to meet their deadline.

C.H.S. Principal Kenneth Leatherwood says he and students are excited about the new and improved facility and are looking forward to seeing the final product with new tiling and more spacious classrooms and courtyards.

"It's been a two-year project, and we're hopeful its going to be finished by the time kids start school on a week from next Monday," says Leatherwood.

Construction officials are also hopeful. "We're on track," said Project Manager Javier Luevano. "We're on budget. We're on schedule. There's a few setbacks, as in any remodeling job, nothing major."

If for some reason the project takes a little longer than expected, school will still go on.

"We had to deal with construction all of last year while school was in session, so [what's left of the construction] will be small potatoes compared to what they had to deal with last year," says Leatherwood.

"Students have been here without ceilings and floors for a year," says Luevano. "Is there a possibility that a couple of doors might not be painted? Sure there's that possibility, but for all intensive purposes--the mechanical, the electrical, the plumbing--it's all inspected, it'll all pass. It'll be fine."

Classes begin Monday, August 22nd.
