Orlando is one of the most popular destinations for travelers leaving Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport. It just became a whole lot easier to get there.

"Freedom Airline will offer one daily round trip flight between Charlottesville and Orlando through a partnership with Delta Airlines," said City Manager Gary O'Connell.

And so a new destination is born for Charlottesville travelers. Beginning November 1st, travelers will be able to access Disney World and sunny Florida non-stop from Charlottesville. It seemed to fit perfectly for both airline and airport.

"We think again with the economically priced low fares that will be offered in the market place, it would spur additional business," said Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (CHO) Executive Director Bryan Elliott.

The daily flight will leave CHO at 5:40 p.m. and arrive in Orlando at 7:45 p.m. The expansion of services excites many travelers who for years have been left to fly elsewhere.

"I think it's great. We don't have enough flights in this area. We have to go all the way to Dulles. What is that? Four hours to get up there from our place," said Linda Layser.

"I would like to see more direct flights to Charlottesville so that I could come more often," said Ruth Sweeney.

More choices means more convenience for Charlottesville travelers. But residents will not be the only people to be positively impacted by this addition.

"It will generate additional and viable air service options for the benefit of our citizens as well as our many visitors and guests," O'Connell said.

With this new addition, Delta is trying to lure new customers. They are offering a one-way fare for $84. But you need to book quickly--the offer ends on September 16th.
