Gas Prices Are Pickpocketing Drivers

Video will be available shortly.

July 17, 2005

Gas prices in Charlottesville are at an all-time high, hitting $2.25 a gallon today just for regular.

"It hurts. It, hurts, it hurts, really," said Beverly Walker from Fluvanna County.

Local gas prices have increased by 17 cents in the last month and nearly 40 cents in the last year.

"That's just burning man. $30 or $40 a week for gas is outrageous. Something needs to be done about it," said Walker

"I don't know if its going to be $50 bucks to fill up my car, or if its only going to be $30 bucks, and so I try not to go travel a whole lot of places because I don't know how much money that I'll spend on the gas," explained driver Kate Lawson.

If you're looking for ways to save money at the pump:

1. Keep the correct amount air in your tires. The amount should be located in your car's driver doorpost.

2. Try to fill up your car later at night or early in the morning. These times of the day are normally cooler and the gas is typically less dense.

3. Clean out your truck of items you don't use. The heavier your car the more it pulls, burning more gas.

4. Stay current with your oil change. Every 3,000 miles is suggested.
