Old Movies Become New Favorites

Video will be available shortly.

July 18, 2005

Ever get in the mood for some good old movies? Well, on Sunday nights, the Newsplex has you covered.

Starting in August on CBS19, local man Tommy Garrett will host "Somewhere In Time," a program which will feature 13 old Hollywood favorites as well as special guests, including Joan Crawford's grandson, Casey Lalonde. Garrett and Lalonde hope the movies will please old fans and create new ones.

"The movies of that era were written on emotion and storyline and less on hype and special effects," Garrett said of movies such as "Rain," which feature Lalonde's grandmother.

"The writing and screenplays of the '30s, '40s and '50s were really just remarkable, just how they dealt with subjects," added Lalonde.

Garrett also wrote a book about Joan Fontaine, called "Letters from a Known Woman: Joan Fontaine," and will be signing his book Saturday, July 21, at the Virginia Company in Barracks Road Shopping Center.
