Chapter 11 Bankruptcy is what two more airlines are going through: Northwest and Delta. Charlottesville airports said this will affect Charlottesville's new deal with the Sunshine state.
Bankruptcy has become almost synonymous with airlines all over the nation. But this time it's affecting Charlottesville flights.
"One of the tragedies that we experienced on a local level of course was the loss, or actual deferment of the launch of the direct non-stop [flight] service to Orlando," said Terrie Dean, of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport.
Starting November 1, 2005 Delta's new deal guaranteed passengers could get a non-stop flight from Charlottesville to Orlando, Florida for only $168. But now those passengers that booked flights ahead of time are out of luck, maybe indefinitely.
"Delta has said that we wouldn't expect that it would be canceled completely but the reinstatement of the launch date is pending based on their ability to recoup financially," said Dean.
Delta isn't the only one that will need to recoup financially, passengers will too.
"The airlines will generally allow them to refund tickets in circumstances like this but then they'll still have to buy a new ticket on a different Delta flight or a different airline," said Rochelle DeBaun, a travel agent at Peace Frogs Travel.
Right now those flights are going for at least $50 more. But travel-agents said there isn't anything passengers or travel agencies can do about it.
"We'll give them options and just try to listen to them and understand what they want to do because that's all we can do," said DeBaun.
The Charlottesville/Albemarle Airpoirt is hoping that once Delta gets on their feet, they'll bring the non-stop flight back.
