Click it or ticket, it's a trusty phrase that Virginians have embraced in record numbers.
Virginia drivers, 80 percent, are wearing seat belts according to a recent study.
DMV commissioner D.B. Smit says, "while a number of highway safety initiatives help to educate the public about the importance of safety belts, the 'Click it of Ticket' campaign played a critical role."
Although people are buckling up more, some say even more can be done.
"People are beginning to realize exactly how valuable seat belts are," says Cpl. Glenn Fink, Traffic Unit Supervisor for Albemarle County. "I think it's probably be a good time for the general assembly to hope on board and make it a primary law."
Those who sit in the front seat, age 16 and older, could receive a ticket up to $25 for not wearing a seat belt.
