The Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad got a call around 9:30 p.m. tonight for a group of hikers stranded on a hike. It appears a group of day campers who went on a hike got stranded in the woods. They made contact with 911 when they got to the McCormick Observatory.

Fire and EMS transported 10 patients by ambulance to UVA for medical treatment. WIth the aid of University Transit Service buses, another 68 hikers were taken to area hospitals for precautionary reasons. It does not appear that any of the campers sustained life threatening injuries.

Officials are unsure at this time where the group originated or how long they had been lost out in the woods. It does appear that they had been stranded a good portion of the day because they had exhausted all food and water.
